Key Takeaways
JetBlue is particularly attractive if you live in New York City and it’s a convenient hub to your frequent destinations.
- More limited routes that all run through one hub make it a less attractive utility airline option than American or Southwest.
- Points are relatively easy to collect with good transfer options and a nice airline. We just hate layovers.

How to Earn Miles
Booking flights directly on jetBlue and opening co-branded jetBlue credit cards are the fastest ways to earn points with the airline. While jetBlue doesn’t belong to an airline alliance, it does partner with several airlines where you can also earn jetBlue points.
Earn by Flying jetBlue
- Blue Basic: Earns 1 base point per dollar spent and 1 additional point per dollar when you book directly through jetBlue.
- Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, Mint: Earn 3 base points per dollar spent and 3 additional points per dollar when booked directly.
- Mosaic status: Earn an additional 3 points per dollar.
- jetBlue credit cards: Earn an additional 3–6 points per dollar when paying with the card.
Earn by opening co-branded credit cards
JetBlue has 4 co-branded cards that allow you to earn TrueBlue points. There are three personal cards and one business card, and they all vary in signup bonuses, annual fees, and benefits. We only recommend two of the four, but those two provide strong value if you fly on the airline at least once or twice per year or with multiple people.
Earn by opening American Express, Chase, Capital One, or Citi cards
JetBlue partners with four major credit card systems that allow you to transfer points for flight redemptions. Any points you earn with Amex, Chase, Capital One, or Citi can be transferred to jetBlue for top ups or to book flights. Chase and Citi are the only partners offering 1:1 transfer ratios. Amex is 2.5:2, which is reasonable unless you need a large transfer. Capital One is 5:3, so we only recommend transferring if you need a small amount to complete an award.
Flying with partners
JetBlue isn’t part of an airline alliance, but it partners with various airlines around the world. You can earn TrueBlue points by flying on certain partner airlines, though some partners don’t award TrueBlue points at all. Points earned depend on the class of service and vary by partner. How to Redeem Miles
Redeem for Airfare
Booking flights is the best way to redeem your TrueBlue points and get the most value out of them. Traditional sweet spots are harder to find because JetBlue award prices are tied directly to dynamically priced cash fares. You can still find good sweet spot options with partner airlines, and JetBlue’s Mint first class remains a popular premium redemption.
Searching for reward flights is simple. Use these tools to find the best pricing:
- Enter your trip details and select “Use TrueBlue points”
- View results by month to compare award prices
Redeeming your miles on JetBlue flights usually gets you around a 1.3 cent per point redemption. If you hold the JetBlue Plus or JetBlue Business card, you’ll receive a 10% rebate on points redeemed for JetBlue-operated flights, which improves the value. The best sweet spots tend to be with partner airlines, even though JetBlue doesn’t publish partner award charts. Make sure to review our favorite partner sweet spot redemptions.
Redeem for Hotels, Cars, and Vacation Packages
You can also redeem points for:
- Hotel stays
- Rental cars
- Activities
- Vacation packages
These redemptions are booked through trueBlue Travel, JetBlue’s travel portal, and typically return about 1 cent per point. Because of this, booking airfare generally provides the best value.

Booking Tips
Use the JetBlue Business or JetBlue Plus credit card and receive 10% of redeemed points back
Use Points Pooling to combine points with up to 7 people! This works great if you travel with a family with kids, as you can open a loyalty account for each kid and pool the entire family’s points together
Be aware that jetBlue’s award pricing is directly tied to their cash price, so you won’t get outsized value on jetBlue flights (you can usually expect to get 1.3-1.5¢ per point). But when the cash price is low, the award price will also be low. Outsized value happens when you book with partners

Who is it best for?
JetBlue’s TrueBlue loyalty program is best for those who live on the east coast and/or have access to JetBlue’s hub cities. Award prices on JetBlue-operated flights are directly tied to the cash price of the ticket, which is helpful for beginners and makes booking “free” flights straightforward.
They don’t use award charts, there are no blackout dates, and there are no fuel surcharges, which keeps the program easy to navigate when booking directly with JetBlue. The onboard experience is often better than competitors, with more legroom in economy, the option to upgrade to “Even More Space,” and a top-notch premium cabin called Mint.
To get outsized value with TrueBlue, though, you’ll want to learn about their partners. That’s where the best sweet spots are found. JetBlue doesn’t have as many partnerships as other airlines, mainly because they aren’t part of an alliance, but the value is still there. If you’re a beginner or not “all-in” on the points-and-miles hobby, and you live near a JetBlue hub, it’s a loyalty system worth getting involved with.
Status Levels Explained
There are 4 levels of Mosaic for those looking to earn status with JetBlue. Each level offers unique benefits and perks. JetBlue uses Tiles to determine status qualifications through spending on JetBlue flights and with JetBlue co-branded credit cards.
Tiles are JetBlue’s qualifying points. You earn 1 Tile for every $100 spent on JetBlue flights, vacations, or travel booked through TrueBlue Travel. You also earn 1 Tile for every $1,000 spent on a JetBlue credit card. You are allowed to double dip when paying for a JetBlue flight with a JetBlue credit card.
Elite Status Levels
Below are the qualifications and benefits for each tier.
- Even More Space at booking instead of check-in
- Avis President’s Club status
- Dedicated Mosaic 3 phone support
- 4 certificates for Move to Mint
- Dedicated Mosaic 4 phone support
- 2 more certificates for Move to Mint
- Earn 2 more Move to Mint certificates for every 100 tiles after reaching Mosaic 4
- Gift Mosaic 1 status to a trueBlue member of your choice

You can earn extra perks as you work toward the first 50 Tiles needed for Mosaic 1 status. At each milestone, you can choose one additional perk from a set of available options.

- FoundersCard Blue Membership
- Pet Fee Waiver

What to Know Before Canceling
TrueBlue points don’t expire, and since any points earned from a co-branded credit card are tied directly to your TrueBlue account, there’s no downside to canceling a card. You won’t need to move your points anywhere, because they’ll already be safely in your TrueBlue account.
FAQs
- How to get free bags on JetBlue?
- If you book a Blue Plus or Mint fare, you have at least one checked bag included. Mosaic members and JetBlue Plus or Premiere cardholders also receive at least one free checked bag as part of their perks.
- Does JetBlue have first class?
- Yes. JetBlue’s first class is called Mint, and it’s highly regarded by travelers. It features lie-flat seats, premium food and drink, entertainment, priority boarding, and amenities. Some aircraft offer Mint Studio with sliding doors for privacy.
- How much are JetBlue points worth?
- JetBlue points are valued at about 1.3¢ per point. You can expect to get around that rate when redeeming for JetBlue flights. You can get higher value by finding a sweet spot with one of JetBlue’s partner airlines.
- Can I use TrueBlue points to upgrade my seat?
- You can use points to upgrade to Mint, JetBlue’s first class product. You cannot use points for “Even More Space” upgrades, which must be paid in cash. Mosaic status perks may allow upgrades to those seats.
- How many points do I need to fly for free?
- Some short routes, like New York to DC, can be as low as 4600 points in Blue Basic. Award prices are tied directly to cash prices and are fully dynamic, so the cost varies based on demand and timing.
