Capital One Venture X Credit Card Review

Key Takeaways

The Venture X is a “keep forever” card if you travel even once or twice per year. Its $395 annual fee is lower than other premium cards (like Chase Sapphire Reserve or Amex Platinum), and it’s easy to offset thanks to the $300 annual Capital One Travel credit and 10,000-point anniversary bonus.
Throw in lounge access, travel protections, and authorized user benefits, and this card becomes a standout in the premium space.

Why This Card Could Be Right For You

Venture X offers premium benefits at a lower cost — and incredible flexibility through Capital One’s “Purchase Eraser.”

  • Earn 75,000 Capital One miles after meeting the spending requirement
  • $300 annual travel credit (must be used through Capital One Travel)
  • Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit
  • Lounge access via Priority Pass + Capital One Lounges (authorized users also get access — for free)
  • 10,000 bonus miles each year on your account anniversary
  • $100 credit with Premier Collection + $50 credit with Lifestyle Collection
  • Excellent travel protections, car rental insurance, and trip delay/cancellation benefits
The “Purchase Eraser” lets you redeem miles at 1:1 value for any travel purchase — including Airbnb, VRBO, boutique hotels, and more — which most other card ecosystems can’t match.

When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply

This card might not be ideal if:

  • You don’t like booking travel through portals (you must use Capital One Travel to trigger the $300 credit)
  • You’re trying to book with a specific airline or hotel that isn’t available through Capital One’s travel partners

What to Know About Capital One Miles

Capital One is a flexible point system we use for travel items that other systems don't cover
  • Car Rentals, cruises, and vacation home rentals top our list of uses for Capital One Miles
  • Partner transfers are niche airlines and hotel brands, making the points less attractive
  • Point redemptions are so similar to cash that they can be less satisfying for the hobbyist
  • Capital One is particularly attractive to businesses with large spends

How The Capital One Venture X Credit Card Fits In The Capital One Miles Ecosystem

Venture X is Capital One’s top-tier card and delivers serious value from day one.

  • The $300 travel credit + 10,000-anniversary miles cancel out the annual fee on their own
  • Great for lounge access, flexible redemptions, and stacking with other rewards programs
  • For couples or “two-player mode,” one partner can apply for the Venture X while the other gets the Venture Rewards (currently 75,000-miles sign-up bonus), then downgrade to VentureOne after year one

If you're already cycling through Chase or Amex cards, this is a great way to add diversity and take a break while still earning top-tier rewards.

My Experience, No Filter

We picked up the Venture X after maxing out Chase opportunities. The lounge access was a major win on a family trip to Croatia — especially since we could add my wife as a free authorized user and get access for all five of us. We’ve used the travel credit on local weekend getaways, and the purchase eraser came in handy for a vacation rental in the Canadian Rockies. Combined with Chase for hotels and Amex for flights, Venture X helped complete the puzzle — and saved us thousands.
