How to Earn Miles

Flying on Aeroméxico, its partners, or earning miles through one of its transferable points partners are the best ways to earn points.

Earn by Flying Aeroméxico

Aeroméxico Rewards is a revenue–based system, so you earn points based on how much you spend on your ticket. Basic members earn 8 points per dollar spent on the base fare (excluding taxes and fees).

Elite members earn bonus points:

  • Silver: +2 points per dollar
  • Gold: +3 points per dollar
  • Platinum: +5 points per dollar
  • Titanium: +8 points per dollar

Earn by Opening Transferable Points cards

Aeromexico has strong transfer partners for top ups or full award redemptions. American Express is your best option as you can transfer at a 1:1.6 ratio, getting more for each point. Capital One and Citi both transfer at 1:1 ratios.

Flying with Partners (alliance and non-alliance partners)

Aeroméxico is part of SkyTeam, so you can earn points when flying on any SkyTeam partner. Earnings vary by partner and booking class, and Aeroméxico publishes charts for each airline. You can review SkyTeam partner earning rates by clicking each airline on their partner page.

Aeroméxico also partners with several non-SkyTeam airlines. You can check those earning rates the same way by visiting their non-alliance partner page.

Other Options to Earn

As with most other airlines, you can earn points by booking travel through their portal, with other travel partners, or with non-travel partners. None of these are high value ways of earning points, but they can add to your collection when necessary.

How to Redeem Miles

Redeeming points for airfare on Aeroméxico will give you the best value. You can redeem points for partner flights as well, but the process is more complicated than with other programs.

Go here to see their award chart and to read about the details of booking award flights.

Aeromexico offer two types of reward tickets:

  • Classic Rewards: These use a fixed award chart and apply to Aeroméxico, SkyTeam, and other affiliate airlines, but only on routes to and from Mexico
    • These fixed price award tickets are limited in availability before moving to dynamic pricing.
  • Aeroméxico Rewards: These are dynamically priced and apply to Aeroméxico, Delta, KLM, and Air France flights only.

Searching for awards can be frustrating. The site has a translation option, but it often switches back to Spanish when navigating to new pages, including search results. Technical issues are also common, such as the “Use my Rewards Points” button disappearing when switching languages.

You can search for award fares by going here and clicking the “Use my Rewards Points” after entering your search details.

Booking Tips

Amex has a 1:1.6 transfer ratio with Aeromexico, so for every 1000 Amex points you transfer, you get 1600 Aeromexico points. For an 18,000 point flight (starting price for one of the sweet spots from the U.S. to various cities in Mexico) would only cost 11,250 Amex points.

Who is it best for?

Aeroméxico Rewards is a solid option for travelers who frequently fly to and from Mexico or throughout Latin America. Aeroméxico has excellent regional coverage, and the program can be useful for anyone who wants access to SkyTeam partners like Delta, Air France, and KLM. It isn’t a top-tier program or one we recommend for beginners, but it’s worth considering if Latin America is a regular destination for you.

Aeroméxico uses both an award chart and dynamic pricing. There are sweet spots, but they aren’t guaranteed due to limited fixed-price availability. Depending on the route and timing, you may have to book awards at dynamic rates.

While there are no co-branded credit cards available to U.S. customers, Aeroméxico has strong transfer partners. American Express is the standout with a 1:1.6 transfer ratio, which makes redemptions especially valuable. For example, an 18,000-point award from many U.S. cities to destinations in Mexico costs just 11,250 Amex points. Citi and Capital One also partner with Aeroméxico, offering several good options for topping up your account.

Status Levels Explained

Aeroméxico has four elite status tiers. You qualify for each level by earning a set number of points or taking a required number of flights. All tiers include priority check-in and at least one free checked bag, with higher tiers offering additional allowances. You’ll also earn bonus points on every Aeroméxico purchase, added to the 8 points per dollar that basic members earn.

Elite Status Levels

Here are the four levels of elite status, requirements you’ll need to get to each level, and the benefits of each

  • 2 bonus points per dollar spent
  • Free seat selection 24 hours before the flight for preferred seating, emergency exits, and economy class
  • Complimentary upgrades on domestic routes; request this benefit at the last-minute waiting area
  • SkyTeam Elite member
  • Priority in call center
  • Recover your level
  • Zone 3 priority

FAQs

Can I transfer Delta SkyMiles to Aeroméxico?

You cannot transfer Delta SkyMiles to Aeroméxico. You can use Delta miles to book Aeroméxico flights through Delta, and you can book Delta flights with Aeroméxico points. Both airlines are part of SkyTeam, which allows reciprocal award booking but not point transfers.

Can I use my Delta status on Aeroméxico?
Yes, Delta status offers certain benefits when flying on Aeroméxico since both belong to SkyTeam. However, some travelers report issues with Aeroméxico agents honoring Delta Medallion perks, especially regarding upgrades, so experiences can vary by airport and agent.

Can I use Aeroméxico rewards on other airlines?
Yes, you can redeem Aeroméxico points for partner flights. Delta, Air France, and KLM appear in online searches, but for most partners you must confirm availability on their sites and call Aeroméxico to book. Availability and pricing can differ widely by partner.

How many points do I need for a free flight?
The lowest redemption is 10,000 points one-way for intra-Mexico flights in low season. You can also fly from many U.S. cities to destinations in Mexico for as little as 18,000 points one-way in economy during low season if award space is available.
