World of Hyatt Credit Card Review

Key Takeaways

This is the only personal Hyatt credit card available, and we recommend keeping it in your wallet. If you’ve reached the stage in the points and miles game where you’re exploring co-branded hotel cards, you likely know Hyatt is among the best for points redemptions. They’re the top hotel partner for Chase cards, offering exceptional value for both traditional hotels and all-inclusive properties (see the Personal Experience section below for examples).

Why This Card Could Be Right For You

The sign-up bonus can be a bit misleading. You may see an advertised 60k points, but you need to read the fine print. The first 30k points are earned by spending $3,000 in the first three months. That initial 30k can get you up to eight free nights, since the lowest redemption is 3,500 points for one night (off-peak). Because Hyatt uses an award chart, there are many possibilities for how you can use those 30k points.

To earn the second 30k points (via 2x points per dollar spent), you’d have to spend $15,000 in six months. We generally suggest moving on to another card after you meet the initial spend, since a sign-up bonus on a new card (or cards) might offer better value for $15,000 in spending. Still, this card remains worthwhile even without that second 30k.

In addition to the sign-up bonus, the World of Hyatt card offers one free night per year at any Category 1–4 Hyatt property worldwide. That perk alone makes it worth keeping the card beyond the first year, even with its $95 annual fee. Other notable perks include Hyatt Discoverist status, a complimentary DashPass membership (valued at $120/year), and $10 off quarterly DoorDash non-restaurant orders.

When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply

This card may not be the best fit if:

  • You don’t stay at hotels and prefer rentals like Airbnb or VRBO.
  • You’re near the Chase 5/24 limit and might get better value from a different personal card or the Hyatt Business card.

What to Know About World of Hyatt

Hyatt is our favorite hotel point system.

  • The value of their points is exceptional.
  • The quality of the hotels is consistently high.
  • There’s no nickel-and-diming cardholders. As a Hyatt cardholder, you’re instantly a VIP
  • They’re a part of our top partner rewards system (Chase Ultimate Rewards) , making top offs from Chase, both easy and a good value.
  • The only downside of Hyatt is they have fewer locations than Hilton, Marriott, or IHG, so smaller or international cities may not have one.

How The World of Hyatt Credit Card Fits In The World of Hyatt Ecosystem

The World of Hyatt credit card is the only personal Hyatt co-branded card that earns Hyatt points. There’s also a Hyatt Business card that doesn’t count against your 5/24 limit and has a 60,000-point sign-up bonus. While that card comes with extra benefits, it also has a $199 annual fee. Any Chase card earning Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred to Hyatt as well, allowing you to top off your Hyatt balance as needed.

My Experience, No Filter

As a father who travels with a family of five, I stay at Hyatt Place properties often. They can accommodate up to five people (two queens and a sofa sleeper) in a standard room, which is perfect for road trips or big city stays. We once redeemed 100,000 points for a New York stay that would have cost $4,055, netting roughly four cents per point in value. My wife and I have also used Hyatt points for a five-night stay at Secrets Impressions Moxché in Playa del Carmen, Mexico—an all-inclusive that costs well over $1,000 per night in cash, yet was only 28k points per night when we booked. There are countless possibilities with Hyatt points, so don’t overlook this card.

Some of our writers are electing to cancel theirs prior and then apply for the new one to receive a new bonus, which based on the age of the card would be beyond 24 month bonus rule.
