Approval Rules Citi 1/95
You'll be declined if you apply for a second Citi business card within 95 days
Deep Dive into the Citi 1/95 Rule
Citi will decline your application if you apply for a second Citi business card within 95 days. If you're a business with a sizable spend, you should limit yourself to applying for 1 Citi business card in a 95-day period. Keep your card history up to date, and we'll warn you if you try to apply for a second card in this time period.
There are only two business cards offered by Citi, so this rule shouldn’t be a hard one to follow. One of the business cards offered is the Costco Anywhere Visa Business card, which is not one we’d ever recommend getting. It’s near the very bottom of our rankings.

How Does This Affect Your Credit Card Strategy?
This shouldn’t impact your card strategy at all. The American Airlines Citi Business card is a valuable card that you may want in your wallet at some point, but the Costco card is not, making the rule one that you’ll never have to worry about.
There is also a separate 48 month restriction on the American Airlines Business card, so this means you won’t be able to get a second American card within a 48 month period, further making this rule one you shouldn’t give a second thought to.
Importance of this Rule
*
This is a rule you’ll never encounter unless Citi adds to their business card offerings. Since there are only two business cards available, and one is not a card we ever recommend getting, this rule becomes moot.

FAQs
Are there exceptions to this rule?
No, it’s pretty black and white.
How do I check my status?
This is a rule you won’t have to worry about checking your status on as it only applies to two cards, one of which you’ll most likely never want.
If you want to keep track of all the other, more important rules though, then you can load the cards you own into the Points Navigator. We’ll track everything for you and alert you if you break one of the many other rules out there.
Do business cards count for this rule?
Yes, this rule is solely about business cards.
Do product changes on existing cards count for this rule?
This is not applicable as you cannot do a product change to either of the two affected cards.
About Approval Rules
Collecting credit card points is largely driven by understanding and abiding by bank rules regarding approval (or disapproval) of cards. So here's what you need to know:
- Approval rules are rarely fully publicized by the banks
- We use our own research and data points from other users in creating the rules listing
- Our goal in sharing/using the rule listings is to provide you guidance to avoid getting declined
- There can sometimes be exceptions to the rules, but we try to take a more cautious approach in advising you.
