Approval Rules US Bank 5 Years
One Sentence Summary
You will not be eligible for a signup bonus if you’re received the signup bonus for that card within the last five years
Deep Dive into the US Bank 5 Years Rule
This is another of those rules that is written out in their terms and conditions. Many of the credit card rules we discuss are nowhere to be found on banks’ websites. Some banks leave it a little more open by using words like “may not be eligible.” Unfortunately US Bank makes it pretty clear in their terms for the US Bank Altitude Connect card:
There are only two US Bank cards that have this language, but it’s black and white. You “are not eligible if you have received a new account bonus for this product in the last five years.”
Important to know:
US Bank is notoriously one of the strictest banks when it comes to approvals, so this type of language is unsurprising. In fact, there is the US Bank Lifetime Rule that restricts you from ever getting the signup bonus on that card again. That rule also only applies to two US Bank cards.

How Does This Affect Your Credit Card Strategy?
Since it only impacts two cards, you shouldn’t be too concerned with this rule, especially since we don’t think either card is very worthwhile. If you do decide one is good for you, though, be aware that you won’t be eligible to get the card again for another five years. Outside of that, though, this shouldn't really impact any other decision making when it comes to your overall card strategy.
Importance of this Rule
*
This is one of the lowest ranked rules you’ll have to worry about. It is restrictive since waiting five years between card bonuses is a long time, but since it only impacts two cards, both of which are ranked low, this is a rule you don’t need to concern yourself with.

You can most easily check your status by loading all your cards into the Points Navigator. This will allow us to do the hard work for you, while you sit back and collect more points and miles!
Do business cards count for this rule?
No, there are only two cards that count for this rule, and they are both personal cards.
Do product changes on existing cards count for this rule?
Yes, if you downgrade a card to one of the two affected cards, that would count as being an “existing cardmember,” which prohibits you from receiving the bonus for the next five years.
