Why This Card Could Be Right For You

The Atmos Summit card, the new premium card from the airline, might be a good fit if you are loyal to Alaska Airlines and fly on the airline at least a couple times per year. Let’s start with the welcome offer - 80,000 points and a 25,000 point Global Companion Award after spending $4000 in the first 90 days. Anyone is eligible for this welcome offer, even if you currently have or have had other Alaska or Hawaiian cards. The annual fee for this card is $395, which is $200 less than American, Delta, and United’s premium card offerings.

If you have or have had an Alaska card in the past, the Global Companion Award is different from the Companion Fare offered by the former Alaska Air Visa card (now the Atmos Ascent). Cardmembers will receive this as part of their welcome offer, plus a new one each year as a perk of owning the card (no spending requirement necessary). If you spend $60,000 annually on the card, you’ll receive a second, 100,000 point Global Companion Certificate. The certificates can be used for travel on Alaska, Hawaiian, oneworld, or any other partners, and you can top off with existing points. But it is only good when the cardmember flies with another person - you cannot use it for yourself when flying alone.

When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply

• You don’t live in a city that has many Alaska Airlines flights to take advantage of its points
• You travel alone so the Companion Fare is not a good perk for you
• You don’t travel on Alaska enough, so the lower tier, Atmos Ascent card might be better for you
