Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card Review

Key Takeaways

The Ink Business Preferred remains one of the best business cards for travel rewards thanks to its 100,000-point welcome offer and relatively modest $95 annual fee. Unlike the no-annual-fee Ink cards, it unlocks direct transfers to Chase’s airline and hotel partners, where you'll typically get the most value from Ultimate Rewards points. The one drawback is that World of Hyatt, historically Chase's most valuable transfer partner, now transfers at a reduced 4:3 ratio. The card is still easy to justify in the first year because of its welcome offer, while its long-term value depends on your business spending patterns and how much you value transferable travel rewards.

Why This Card Could Be Right For You

The Ink Business Preferred card is built for business owners who want to earn big rewards and have the flexibility to use them for high-value travel.

  • Earn 100,000 points after spending $8,000 in the first 3 months
  • 3x points on the first $150,000 spent annually in combined purchases on shipping, select advertising, travel, internet, cable, and phone services
  • 5x points on Lyft rides
  • Access to Chase's airline and hotel transfer partners, though World of Hyatt transfers occur at a reduced 4:3 ratio.
  • Comprehensive travel and purchase protections including trip delay, cell phone protection, and more

With its combination of a big sign-up bonus, strong earning rates, and valuable transfer partners, this card remains one of the cornerstones of the Chase business ecosystem. If World of Hyatt redemptions are a major part of your Ultimate Rewards strategy, you'll need a Sapphire Reserve Business or Sapphire Reserve to preserve full 1:1 Hyatt transfers.

When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply

This card may not be the best fit if:

  • You value World of Hyatt transfers at 1:1 instead of the reduced 4:3 ratio this card offers
  • The $8,000 minimum spend in 3 months is too steep for your current business
  • You prefer a no-annual-fee option

What to Know About Chase Ultimate Rewards

Chase Ultimate Rewards offers versatility, flexible redemption options, and a strong lineup of travel partners.

  • Transferring to Chase's airline and hotel partners is the option we most recommend to get the best value from your Ultimate Rewards points.
  • Hyatt, United, Southwest, and Air Canada are among Chase's most valuable transfer partners.
  • You can also book travel directly through Chase Travel, including flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, and more.
  • If you have one of Chase's Sapphire Reserve cards, you can take advantage of Points Boost for better redemptions through the portal.
  • While Ultimate Rewards remain highly valuable, Chase now limits how often you can earn welcome bonuses on many of its most popular cards.

How The Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card Fits In The Chase Ultimate Rewards Ecosystem

The Ink Business Preferred plays a unique role in Chase's business card ecosystem by providing access to Chase's airline and hotel transfer partners while paying a relatively low annual fee. While World of Hyatt transfers now occur at a reduced 4:3 ratio, all other Chase transfer partners continue to transfer at 1:1.

  • Premium business alternative: The Chase Sapphire Reserve Business is Chase's premium business travel card. It offers a high, 150,000 point signup bonus, premium lounge access, a large collection of statement credits, premium travel protections, and full 1:1 Hyatt transfers, but it comes with a much higher $795 annual fee.
  • Transfer partner access: The Ink Business Preferred, Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, and Sapphire Reserve Business all unlock Chase's airline and hotel transfer partners. The two Sapphire Reserve cards are the only ones that transfer to Hyatt at 1:1, while the Ink Business Preferred and Sapphire Preferred transfer to Hyatt at 4:3. All four cards transfer to every other partner at 1:1.
  • No-annual-fee Ink cards: The Ink Business Cash and Ink Business Unlimited technically earn cash back, but those rewards can be moved to an eligible Sapphire or Ink Business Preferred card and then transferred to Chase's partners.
  • Bonus categories: The Ink Business Preferred earns elevated rewards on several key business spending categories, while the Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited can complement it by earning more in their own bonus categories.
  • Application strategy: Because of the No Fee Ink Lifetime Rule, you can only earn the welcome bonus on one of the Ink Business Cash or Ink Business Unlimited, and only once per lifetime. We recommend waiting for an elevated offer before applying for either card.
  • 5/24 strategy: Like all Chase business cards, the Ink Business Preferred does not add to your 5/24 count, making it an excellent way to continue earning Ultimate Rewards points without affecting future personal card approvals.

If you already have a Sapphire card, the Ink Business Preferred still makes sense for its welcome offer and strong business spending categories. If you don't have a Sapphire card, it's also the least expensive way to unlock Chase transfer partners, making it an excellent entry point into the Chase business ecosystem.

My Experience, No Filter

We started applying for business cards about six months into the hobby. As a two-player household, we each opened the no-annual-fee Ink Business Unlimited and Ink Business Cash before moving on to the Ink Business Preferred. The sign-up bonuses added up fast, and we grew our Chase points stash without hitting our 5/24 limit. Having the Preferred made our entire system more flexible, as we could finally transfer points directly to Chase travel partners without needing a Sapphire card in every wallet. For the right business, it’s easily worth the fee.
