Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Credit Card Review
Key Takeaways
We do not recommend this card. While the 85,000 bonus is reasonable, the annual fee doesn’t deliver enough value. The free night requires $15,000 in annual spend, and Gold Elite status offers limited benefits. Better options exist within the Marriott lineup that provide stronger long-term value.
Why This Card Could Be Right For You
The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy provides a welcome offer of 85,000 points after spending $5,000 within 6 months, which gives you a reasonable timeframe to meet the requirement. However, this bonus isn't as valuable as other hotel programs since Marriott redemptions typically require more points.
Key benefits include:
- Complimentary Gold Elite Status, which provides enhanced room upgrades (when available), 25% bonus points on stays, and 2 PM late checkout
- 15 Elite night credits annually to help you progress toward higher status tiers
- Enhanced earning rates of 6X points at Marriott properties
- 4X points on restaurants worldwide and U.S. supermarkets (up to $15,000 per year)
The card's most significant drawback is the free night certificate (valued up to 50,000 points), which requires $15,000 in annual spending to earn. This spending requirement is difficult to justify when other Marriott cards offer anniversary free nights with no additional spending needed. Considering the substantial $250 annual fee, most travelers would benefit more from alternative Marriott cards that provide better value for their annual fee investment or from general travel cards with more flexible rewards structures.
When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply
It's difficult to justify choosing the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy card because:
- The spending requirement to earn a free night isn't worthwhile, especially when other Marriott co-branded cards offer free nights without any spending requirements
- If you've received a Marriott/Starwood card in the last 24 months, you're ineligible for the sign-up bonus on this card
- The return on investment is poor compared to other hotel chain rewards programs
What to Know About Marriott Bonvoy
Their poor points redemption value leaves Bonvoy near the bottom of our rankings.
- There are multiple cards with great point transfer options. In theory, this is good.
- Finding a solid value for a Marriott stay is a challenge. A one night stay at desirable destinations can match the number of points from one card bonus.
- Values can be found, but they can be frustrating to find, so it isn’t a terrible system. It just doesn’t have the usefulness of many of the other hotel systems.
How The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Credit Card Fits In The Marriott Bonvoy Ecosystem
Marriott offers a wide range of co-branded cards, but the Bevy is not one we generally recommend. It sits in an awkward middle tier, charging an annual fee without offering enough value to justify it compared to other Marriott options.
- Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful: Nearly identical to the Bevy. Both cards charge a $250 annual fee, offer Gold Elite status and 15 Elite Night Credits, and require $15,000 in annual spending to earn their free night certificate. The primary difference is the welcome offer timing.
- Marriott Bonvoy Boundless: Our favorite Marriott card for most travelers. Its lower $95 annual fee, strong welcome offer, and annual free night certificate provide better long-term value than the Bevy.
- Marriott Bonvoy Bold: Marriott's only no-annual-fee card. While the benefits are limited, it allows you to earn Marriott points without paying an annual fee.
- Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant: The better choice for frequent Marriott guests, thanks to automatic Platinum Elite status, an annual free night worth up to 85,000 points, and premium travel benefits.
For most travelers, the choice comes down to the Boundless for long-term value or the Brilliant for elite status and premium perks. The Bevy (and Bountiful) fall in the middle without offering a compelling reason to choose them over either card.
My Experience, No Filter
We've consistently passed on this card because we're not fans of the Marriot point system. What makes this card even worse is paying a beefy annual fee to get a mediocre sign-up bonus and limited ongoing perks. If you just have to get a Marriott card, go with a less expensive version.
