Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Credit Card Review

Key Takeaways

Among the various Marriott co-branded cards available, we don't recommend the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy or its sister card, the Bountiful (essentially the same card but issued by Chase instead of American Express). While the welcome offer of 85,000 (current special 175,000) points is reasonable, the annual fee doesn't provide sufficient value. You can only earn a free night (up to 50,000 points) after spending $15,000 on the card annually. The only other notable benefits are complimentary Gold Elite status and 15 Elite night credits toward Platinum Elite status (which still requires a total of 50 nights).

Why This Card Could Be Right For You

The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy offers several potential benefits, though its value proposition is questionable compared to other Marriott cards. The card provides a welcome offer of 85,000 (current special 175,000) points after spending $5,000 within 6 months, which gives you a reasonable timeframe to meet the requirement. However, this bonus isn't as valuable as other hotel programs since Marriott redemptions typically require more points.

Key benefits include:

  • Complimentary Gold Elite Status, which provides enhanced room upgrades (when available), 25% bonus points on stays, and 2 PM late checkout
  • 15 Elite night credits annually to help you progress toward higher status tiers
  • Enhanced earning rates of 6X points at Marriott properties
  • 4X points on restaurants worldwide and U.S. supermarkets (up to $15,000 per year)

The card's most significant drawback is the free night certificate (valued up to 50,000 points), which requires $15,000 in annual spending to earn. This spending requirement is difficult to justify when other Marriott cards offer anniversary free nights with no additional spending needed. Considering the substantial $250 annual fee, most travelers would benefit more from alternative Marriott cards that provide better value for their annual fee investment or from general travel cards with more flexible rewards structures.

When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply

It's difficult to justify choosing the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy card because:

  • The spending requirement to earn a free night isn't worthwhile, especially when other Marriott co-branded cards offer free nights without any spending requirements
  • If you've received a Marriott/Starwood card in the last 24 months, you're ineligible for the sign-up bonus on this card
  • The return on investment is poor compared to other hotel chain rewards programs

What to Know About Marriott Bonvoy

Their poor points redemption value leaves Bonvoy near the bottom of our rankings.

  • There are multiple cards with great point transfer options. In theory, this is good.
  • Finding a solid value for a Marriott stay is a challenge. A one night stay at desirable destinations can match the number of points from one card bonus.
  • Values can be found, but they can be frustrating to find, so it isn’t a terrible system. It just doesn’t have the usefulness of many of the other hotel systems.

How The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Credit Card Fits In The Marriott Bonvoy Ecosystem

The Marriott Bonvoy card portfolio offers six different cards with different annual fees, signup bonuses, and benefits. Here's how the Bevy card compares to its alternatives:

Comparable Premium Options:

  • Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful (Chase): Nearly identical to the Bevy with the same $250 annual fee and 85,000 point bonus (though with different spending requirements)

Both premium cards offer similar core benefits including complimentary Gold Elite Status, 15 Elite night credits annually, and a free night (up to 50,000 points) after spending $15,000 on the card in a year.

Mid-Tier Alternative: The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card provides better value with a $95 annual fee while offering a superior welcome bonus of 0 points plus a $150 statement credit after your first purchase. Its key advantages include:

  • A free anniversary night without spending requirements (though capped at 35,000 points)
  • Complimentary Silver Elite Status
  • 15 Elite night credits each calendar year

No-Fee Option: The Marriott Bonvoy Bold card stands out as the no-annual-fee entry point with:

  • 30,000 point sign-up bonus after $1,000 in purchases within 3 months
  • A free night's stay (up to 50,000 points)
  • Silver Elite Status and 5 Elite night credits, despite having no annual fee

Ultra-Premium Option: For dedicated Marriott loyalists, the American Express Brilliant card represents the pinnacle of the lineup with a $650 annual fee. This premium card justifies its cost through:

  • A competitive 100,000 point sign-up bonus
  • One free night annually (up to 85,000 points)
  • Complimentary Platinum Elite status with significantly enhanced benefits compared to Gold or Silver
  • Numerous additional perks and statement credits designed for frequent Marriott guests

When comparing these options, the Bevy card occupies an awkward middle position that makes it difficult to recommend over either the more affordable Boundless or the feature-rich Brilliant for those willing to pay a premium annual fee.

My Experience, No Filter

We've consistently passed on this card because we're not fans of the Marriot point system. What makes this card even worse is paying a beefy annual fee to get a mediocre sign-up bonus. If you just have to get a Marriott card, go with a less expensive version.
