IHG One Rewards Business Credit Card Review
Key Takeaways
The IHG One Rewards Business Credit Card is a strong long-term option for small business owners, especially if you stay at IHG at least once or twice per year. The free anniversary night, worth up to 50,000 points and able to be topped off with additional points, can go a long way toward offsetting the $200 annual fee. Add in a 140,000 (current special 190,000)-point welcome offer, automatic Platinum Elite status, 15 Elite Night Credits each year, and the fourth-night-free benefit on award stays, and the card offers strong ongoing value. It also won’t count against your 5/24 status.
Why This Card Could Be Right For You
The IHG One Rewards Business Credit Card offers strong value for business owners who stay with IHG, especially if you can make use of the annual free night, automatic Platinum Elite status, and fourth-night-free benefit on award stays.
You’ll earn a 140,000 (current special 190,000)-point welcome offer after $4,000 (currently $5,000) in the first 3 months. The $200 annual fee can be largely offset by the free anniversary night, which is worth up to 50,000 points and can be topped up with IHG points. The unlimited fourth-night-free benefit adds even more value on longer award stays.
Other card benefits include:
- Automatic IHG Platinum Elite status
- Up to $100 in annual IHG Food & Beverage Rewards, issued as a $25 voucher each quarter
- $100 annual airline statement credit after spending at least $250 on flights purchased directly with an airline, available through December 31, 2027
- Up to $100 in annual Expensify statement credits
- Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS statement credit
- 30% discount on IHG points purchases
- Early access to IHG Reward Night sales
- 15 Elite Night Credits each year toward higher status and Milestone Rewards
- Earn 2 additional Elite Night Credits for every $5,000 spent
- Earn 5 additional Elite Night Credits and 20,000 bonus points after spending $25,000 in a calendar year
- Earn Diamond Elite status after meeting the annual spending requirement
- Earn an additional 50,000-point free night after spending $60,000 in a calendar year
- No impact on your Chase 5/24 status
- Strong earning rates:
- 5x points on travel, gas stations, dining, social media and search engine advertising, and office supply stores
- 3x points on all other purchases
- Up to 26x points at most IHG properties:
- 10x from the card
- 10x as an IHG One Rewards member
- 6x from Platinum Elite status
Beginning January 1, 2027, the 5x travel category will narrow to airfare purchased directly with airlines and car rentals, while office supply purchases and other travel will earn 3x. The spending requirement for Diamond Elite status will also increase to $50,000 per calendar year.
When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply
Consider skipping this card if:
- You rarely or never stay at IHG properties, so the anniversary free night, Platinum Elite status, and other IHG-specific benefits would go unused.
- You don’t expect to get enough value from the 50,000-point anniversary free night, 15 annual Elite Night Credits, and other benefits to justify the $200 annual fee.
- You already have another IHG card that gives you the benefits you value most and don’t have a specific reason to add the business card.
What to Know About IHG One Rewards
IHG is our “utility” hotel points system. If you just need a night or two, and aren’t looking for glitz and glamor, IHG points go a long way.
- The IHG brand consists mostly of Holiday Inns, which are in nearly every small town or international city you might want to stay. We use it as the Hyatt’s “not there” filler.
- There are also several luxury hotels part of IHG’s umbrella, and while redemptions can be high, there is plenty of variety in IHG properties
- The generous sign-up bonuses (especially if you wait for a special offer) will cover 6-8 nights per card.
- IHG is part of the Chase partner rewards system, but IHG redemptions can be very high, so this isn't usually a great transfer option except for topping off.
How The IHG One Rewards Business Credit Card Fits In The IHG One Rewards Ecosystem
The IHG One Rewards Premier Business Card offers a similar value proposition to the personal Premier Card, but it has one major strategic advantage: it does not add to your 5/24 count. That makes it especially appealing for business owners who want IHG benefits while staying under 5/24.
- Prefer a personal card? The IHG One Rewards Premier Card offers a 140,000-point welcome bonus after $3,000 in spending within 3 months. Its benefits are broadly comparable to the Business card, including an annual free night and fourth night free on award stays.
- Stay with IHG frequently? The IHG One Rewards Premier Select Card offers a 200,000-point welcome bonus after $5,000 in spending within 3 months. It comes with a 60,000-point anniversary free night, Platinum Elite status, 20 Elite Night Credits each year, and a larger collection of credits and spend-based benefits.
- Want to avoid an annual fee? The IHG One Rewards Credit Card offers a 80,000-point welcome bonus after $2,000 in spending within 3 months. It has no annual fee, but its long-term value is more limited since earning its annual free night requires $5,000 in calendar-year spending.
If you qualify for a business card and are trying to preserve your 5/24 slots, the Premier Business is a good option to get many of the same core IHG benefits as the personal Premier.
My Experience, No Filter
For us, this business card was a no-brainer. The solid sing-up bonus and the free anniversary night alone made it worth adding. And the 4th night free on award stays gave us even more value. Plus, its business classification makes it a great 5/24 workaround for Chase enthusiasts. We've used this card and IGH points plenty of times when we couldn't find a Hyatt close by.
