Key Takeaways
Wyndham is towards the bottom of our hotel points list. It’s not a good utility point system to just hold points.
- Questionable room quality and cleanliness.
- Their points expire – even when you’re a cardholder.
- Difficulty in collecting points for more than a few stays.
- If you love a specific Wyndham hotel (including resorts), getting a card might be worth it.

How to Earn Points
There are several ways to earn Wyndham points. The easiest are by staying at Wyndham properties or opening one of their co-branded credit cards. Wyndham is also a transfer partner with Capital One and Citi, so points earned with those systems can be transferred for hotel stays.
Earn by Staying at Wyndham Properties
- You earn points on any qualified stay at most Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.
- Members earn 10 points per dollar spent, or 1000 points per stay, whichever is greater.
- Exception: At WaterWalk Extended Stay, you earn 5 points per dollar in furnished suites and no points in other accommodation types.
- There are also Status Bonuses if you hold status with Wyndham:
- Gold: 10% bonus
- Platinum: 15% bonus
- Diamond: 20% bonus
Earn by Opening Co-branded Credit Cards
Wyndham has three co-branded cards from Barclays: two personal cards and one business card. You can find details on which cards we recommend below.
Earn by Opening Capital One and/or Citi Cards
- Wyndham partners with Capital One and Citi.
- Capital One miles transfer to Wyndham at a 1:1 ratio.
- Citi transfer ratios depend on the card:
- 1:1.25: Citi Strata Elite, Citi Strata Premier, Citi Prestige
- 1:0.875: Citi cash back cards

Annual Bonuses & Big Spend Bonuses
- Spend requirement: Earn 7,500 bonus points after spending $15,000 on eligible purchases in a calendar year.
- Our recommendation: This spend requirement isn’t worth it. The Wyndham Earner Plus card gives you the same 7,500-point anniversary bonus automatically each year for a $75 annual fee, making it a far better deal than putting $15,000 of spend on this no-fee card.

How to Redeem Points
The most valuable way to use your Wyndham Rewards is to redeem them for stays at Wyndham properties. Wyndham keeps things simple with three award tiers: 7500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per night. If you hold a Wyndham Earner card, you’ll receive a 10% discount on all award stays, bringing redemptions down to 6750, 13,500, or 27,000 points. More than half of their properties fall into the lowest tier, including a few all-inclusive resorts.
You can also stretch your points further with a points+cash “Go Fast” redemption, which allows you to pay part of the rate in cash and part in points.

Booking Tips
You can see the cash price for two months at a time. Perform a search (using cash), then click on the "price calendar" dropdown for each property after it displays a price. Use the dates that have cash availability to search by points redemptions.
There are Wyndham properties that charge the same amount for all rooms, suites included. We’ve found rooms all at the 7500 point price point at the same property, with cash prices ranging from $125-$400! Get a suite at the upper range and you’ll earn over 5¢/point
Who is it best for?
Wyndham Rewards is best for travelers who stay at budget and mid-tier hotels. While Wyndham properties can work for a full vacation, the program shines for one-off stays on road trips or overnight stops on longer drives. With Wyndham’s large footprint, finding a property to redeem points at is usually easy.
The simple award structure is another major perk. Knowing a hotel will cost 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per night is far easier than dealing with dynamic pricing systems that swing from 6,000 to 45,000 points. One downside with Wyndham is that it lacks true luxury brands.
Status Levels Explained

- Earn at least 1,000 points per stay
- Access to free and discounted nights
- Rollover nights that never expire
- Free Wi-Fi
All higher tiers must be earned by completing a required number of qualifying nights or by opening one of Wyndham’s co-branded credit cards.
Elite Status Levels
Here are the elite status levels for Wyndham Rewards, what it takes to reach each level, and the benefits and perks for each
- Caesars Rewards Status match
- Avis and Budget car rental upgrades
- Early check-in
- Suite upgrades
- Welcome amenity at check-in
- Gift one GOLD level membership to a family member or friend
What to Know Before Canceling
Even if you hold one of the two Wyndham cards with an annual fee, you can still get solid value as long as you stay at a Wyndham property at least once per year. The anniversary points and complimentary status on the Earner Plus and Business cards generally justify their $75 and $95 annual fees. Regardless of whether you keep a card, your points will expire three years after they are earned. You will also forfeit your points if you have no account activity for 18 months.
