Key Takeaways
Vueling uses Avios as its currency, so any Avios you earn can be transferred:
- The other airlines who use Avios are British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Finnair, Qatar, and Loganair
- You can transfer Avios for free between all seven airlines
- Redemptions through Vueling are generally poor value
- We suggest transferring any Avios earned on Vueling to another Avios airline and redeeming with them

How to Earn Miles
You can earn Vueling Avios by booking flights on the airline. You can also earn Avios through hotel partners, rental car partners, and various shopping and dining partners. The only co-branded credit cards are limited to residents of Spain, and Vueling has no credit card transfer partners. Since Vueling uses Avios as its currency, you can freely transfer Avios between all seven airlines who use it — British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Finnair, Qatar, and Loganair.
Earn by Flying Vueling
When flying on Vueling, you will earn Avios based on the price of your ticket.
- Basic and Fly Light fares earn 2 Avios per Euro spent.
- Optima, Family, Timeflex, Fly, and Fly Grande fares earn 4 Avios per Euro spent.
You may earn more Avios if you book your Vueling flight through Iberia (more on that below). Premium Members earn double Avios once they obtain status with the airline.
Flying with Partners (alliance and non-alliance partners)
Since Vueling uses Avios like six other airlines, you can earn Avios with any of them and transfer freely between all seven programs. Vueling also partners with Iberia and uses an earnings chart to determine earned Avios.
Here are a few tips for booking Vueling through Iberia:
- Book Vueling flights through Club Iberia Plus, Iberia’s frequent flier program.
- Iberia Plus awards Avios based on distance flown rather than cost
- You may be able to earn more Avios by booking through Iberia instead of Vueling.
- Longer flights with lower fares will generally earn more when credited to Iberia.

How to Redeem Miles
Redeem for Airfare
The best way to redeem Avios earned with Vueling is by using them to book flights on another airline that also uses Avios as its currency. You can redeem Avios directly on Vueling or Iberia, which are the only options available through Vueling’s website. When booking through Vueling, you can also use Avios to pay for extras like bags, seat selection, or insurance. However, Vueling ties Avios to a fixed (and poor) redemption rate, so we don’t recommend redeeming through Vueling unless necessary.
There are no traditional sweet spot opportunities when redeeming directly with Vueling, since Avios are only used to offset the cash cost of a flight. The value is poor, averaging around 0.5 cents per point.
The good news is that you can freely transfer your Avios to any of the other six airlines who use Avios — British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Finnair, Qatar, and Loganair — and book award flights with them instead. Doing this also unlocks the full partner networks of those airlines, giving you far more valuable ways to redeem your Avios.

Booking Tips
Changing your flight with Vueling Club
- Fly Grande bundles and TimeFlex fares offer unlimited changes
- If you added the Flex Pack, you won’t be charged a change fee to change your flight but you could pay a fare difference if there is one
- Pay a €50-€70 fee for all other fares (cost depends on when you make the change)
Canceling your flight with Vueling Club
- Fly or Fly Light bundle tickets are nonrefundable
- If you booked a Fly Grande or Flex Pack bundle, you can cancel it up to 48 hours before departure and receive a flight credit in return
Who is it best for?
Vueling is best for travelers based in Spain or nearby European countries who fly the low-cost carrier a few times per year. If you are not based in Europe, this program won’t offer much value. There is no co-branded credit card for U.S. customers, and there are no credit card transfer partners.
Because Vueling uses Avios, any Avios you earn from flying can be transferred freely to any of the six other Avios-earning airlines. This is the best use of Avios earned through Vueling. Redeeming Avios directly with Vueling offers poor value (usually around 0.5 cents per point), while transferring to another airline can unlock far better redemptions.
Status Levels Explained
There is only one level of elite status with Vueling, called Premium Member. You can become a Premium Member by flying with Vueling 40 times per year, or 20 round trip flights.

FAQs
- Which airline owns Vueling?
- Vueling is owned by International Airlines Group, which acquired the airline in 2013. IAG also owns British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus, which is why Vueling uses Avios as its rewards currency.
- Is Vueling strict with cabin bags?
- Vueling is a low-cost carrier and charges for all bags except a small personal item. These airlines are often strict about bag size, especially on full flights, so it’s best to follow the posted limits.
- Does Vueling have lounge access?
- You can purchase lounge access during booking, but no Vueling fare includes complimentary access. VIP lounge service is only available on Vueling-operated flights booked directly with the airline.
- Can you transfer Avios to American Airlines?
- No. American Airlines does not use Avios, so transfers are not possible. You can still book American flights through Avios-based programs like British Airways, Iberia, or Qatar if award space is available.
