Capital One VentureOne Business Credit Card Review
Key Takeaways
This card offers an opportunity to collect the 50,000-mile sign-up bonus without worrying about an annual fee, but it doesn't offer enough else to warrant a spot in your 5/24. Since this is a miles-earning card, it does allow you to transfer to Capital One's transfer partners.
Why This Card Could Be Right For You
The Capital One VentureOne Business card offers a sign-up bonus of 50,000 miles, a notable amount for a card without an annual fee. You must spend $4,500 in the first three months to earn the bonus. Beyond the initial bonus, you'll earn unlimited 1.5 miles per dollar on all purchases, with 5 miles per dollar when booking hotels and rental cars through the Capital One travel portal.
Additionally, the card provides travel protections such as rental collision coverage and roadside assistance, along with extended warranty protection for eligible purchases.
Since this is a miles-earning card, you can transfer miles to over 15 of Capital One’s travel partners, which generally offers greater value compared to booking through the travel portal. Although redemptions through transfer partners usually provide better returns, the "purchase eraser" feature is another valuable perk available with Capital One cards. This allows you to use miles at a 1:1 rate to reimburse travel expenses that aren't typically bookable with miles, including vacation rentals through platforms like Airbnb and VRBO.
When The Usual Advice Doesn't Apply
The exceptions where this card might not be good for you:
- Other business cards, such as the Capital One Venture Business card and the Capital One Spark 2% Cash Business cards, offer superior sign-up bonuses and spending multipliers.
- Many competing business cards from other banks also provide better offers, so it’s worth exploring these alternatives unless you're specifically focused on earning Capital One miles.
What to Know About Capital One Miles
Capital One is a flexible point system we use for travel items that other systems don't cover
- Partner transfers are niche airlines and hotel brands, making the points more difficult to maximize
- Using an award search tool such as PointsYeah makes finding flights with those airlines more realistic
- Simple redemptions for erasing travel can be useful for cruises & rental cars (at 1¢/point so value isn’t maximized)
- Capital One is particularly attractive to businesses with large spending
How The Capital One VentureOne Business Credit Card Fits In The Capital One Miles Ecosystem
Capital One is one of the strictest issuers for approvals, so plan accordingly. You are typically limited to one approval every six months, and opening many cards with other banks can hurt your odds. Capital One also offers five other business cards. Only the first two listed below do not count against your 5/24, so keep that in mind.
- Capital One Venture X Business: Doest not count against your 5/24. It has a high welcome bonus of 150,000 miles but you have to spend $30,000 to earn it. The Venture X Business also includes additional perks and benefits not found with the Spark Cash Plus card below. The annual fee is $395
- Capital One Spark 2% Cash Plus: Does not count against your 5/24. Very high signup bonus potential but also very high spend requirement to earn it. You can earn $2.000 cash back after spending $30,000, and an additional $2,000 bonus for every $500,000 spent in the first year. The annual fee for this card is $150.
- Capital One Spark 2% Cash: Earn $1,000 in cash back after $10,000 in spending. It has a $95 annual fee that is waived the first year and earns 2% cash back on all purchases.
- Capital One Venture Business: Earn 50,000 miles after $4,500 in spending. You will earn 2x points back on all purchases with a $95 annual fee.
- Capital One Spark 1.5% Cash Select: Welcome offer of $750 in cash back after $6,000 in spending. There is no annual fee on this card and it earns 1.5% cash back on every purchase with no restrictions.
