Points Transfer Guide
How to Earn Points
Earning World of Hyatt points is relatively easy thanks to Hyatt’s partnership with Chase, the most popular bank in the points-and-miles hobby. You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points directly to Hyatt, and Chase also offers two co-branded Hyatt credit cards, one personal and one business. Staying at Hyatt properties is the other most efficient way to build your balance. While there are several additional ways to earn Hyatt points, most provide poor value and are not worth going out of your way for.
Earn by staying at Hyatt
World of Hyatt members earn 5 base points per $1 spent on eligible stays at Hyatt properties. You must book directly through Hyatt, not a third-party travel site. You also earn points on qualifying room charges like dining, spa, and other on-property amenities billed to your room. You do not earn points on award stays where you redeem points for your room.
- Discoverist: 10% bonus points on paid stays
- Explorist: 20% bonus points on paid stays
- Globalist: 30% bonus points on paid stays
Earn by opening co-branded credit cards
Hyatt has two co-branded credit cards backed by Chase, which is also a transfer partner of World of Hyatt. There is one personal card and one business card, each offering decent signup bonuses that earn Hyatt points plus various perks. We think the personal card is worth keeping long term since it offers a free night annually, while the business card is better for earning the welcome offer and then canceling after a year.
Earn by opening Chase or Bilt cards
One of the reasons Chase is the most popular bank in the points and miles hobby is because of the strength of its transfer partners, with Hyatt leading the way. You can use Chase Ultimate Rewards to top off or fully book a stay at any Hyatt property. Chase offers many different cards, giving you plenty of ways to build Ultimate Rewards points and transfer them to World of Hyatt.
Bilt is the only other transfer partner of World of Hyatt. Bilt offers three different credit cards, and you can also earn Bilt points on your rent or mortgage payments, making it a great points-earning system. Because Hyatt is a Bilt partner, you can transfer Bilt points to top off or book an entire stay.
Combine & Share Points
World of Hyatt lets you combine points with any other member at no cost. There is no limit on how many points you can transfer, but each member may only send or receive points once every 30 days. Transfers require a Point Combining Request Form and are not completed instantly.
This can be especially useful for couples, families, or traveling companions transferring points from Bilt Rewards. For example, two people with separate Bilt accounts can each transfer points to their own World of Hyatt accounts and then combine those Hyatt points, even though Bilt does not allow direct point sharing between members.

Annual Bonuses & Big Spend Bonuses
-
World of Hyatt Personal
- Spend requirement: Earn a second free night certificate (category 1-4 hotels) after spending $15,000 on your card in a calendar year.
- Our take: This is not a good use of $15,000, in our opinion.
- Spend requirement: Earn 2 additional Tier-Qualifying Night credits toward your next tier status every time you spend $5000 on your card.
- Our take: Useful only if you're close to a status threshold and the extra spend aligns naturally.
-
World of Hyatt Business
- Spend requirement: Receive 10% of the points you redeem back for the rest of the year if you spend $50,000 on the card.
- Our take: We do not recommend spending that much solely for this perk.
- Spend requirement: Earn 5 Tier-Qualifying Night credits toward status for every $10,000 you spend in a calendar year.
- Our take: Not worth pursuing unless you're already very close to the next elite tier and the spending aligns naturally.

If you have Chase cards, it's worth checking for targeted third-quarter spending offers, as there are some strong bonuses available on select cards. Here are a few of the best offers we've seen:
- Aeroplan: Earn 10x points on up to $1,000 in purchases at grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants.
- Marriott, Southwest, United, Disney, Ritz-Carlton, Amazon, and select other cards: Earn 5x or more on up to $1,000 in eligible purchases.
- Hyatt, IHG, United, and other co-branded cards: Earn bonus points after meeting targeted spending thresholds, with some offers as high as 12,000 points.

Amex is targeting some cardholders with a $100 statement credit after spending $500 or more at participating Hyatt resorts in the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America through November 15, 2026. You can view participating resorts here, and reservations must be booked directly through Hyatt. The offer applies to room rates and eligible charges billed to the room, so it could even work on an award stay if you spend at least $500 on qualifying expenses such as dining, drinks, parking, or spa treatments. The spending requirement can also be met across multiple transactions and stays during the offer period.

Two of the most popular loyalty programs have launched a new partnership. World of Hyatt and Air Canada's Aeroplan are now partners, offering reciprocal status challenges, new earning and redemption options, and a handful of other benefits. The headline might sound exciting, but once you dig into the details, most of the new redemption options offer poor value, including transferring points between the two programs at a 2:1 ratio or redeeming points for free night certificates or flight rewards. The most useful benefit available today is a C$20 annual Air Canada flight credit for Hyatt elite members who link their accounts. Another highlight is that Aeroplan elite members can fast-track to Hyatt Globalist after earning 20 elite nights in 90 days, compared to the usual requirement of 60 elite nights in a calendar year. Later this year, Hyatt elite members will also be able to complete an Aeroplan status challenge, so we're hopeful that provides another worthwhile opportunity. If you have Hyatt elite status, it's worth linking your accounts now and keeping an eye out for the Aeroplan challenge when it launches.

World of Hyatt has launched another promotion, this time offering 3,000 bonus points on stays of three or more nights at Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, and Hyatt Studios completed by July 31, 2026. The bonus is capped at 30,000 points and is available on both paid and award stays.
Where this gets interesting is the stacking. You can combine this promotion with Hyatt's current offer of 5,000 bonus points on stays of five or more nights at Hyatt House and Hyatt Studios, plus Hyatt's 2,000-point promotion for every two nights beginning with your second stay. Trigger all three offers on a qualifying five-night stay and you'll earn 12,000 bonus Hyatt points. Since Category 1 Hyatt hotels start at just 3,000 points per night, a qualifying five-night award stay could cost 15,000 points upfront and earn back 12,000 bonus points, dropping the net cost to just 3,000 points total while still earning elite night credits. For anyone chasing Hyatt status or Milestone Rewards, this could even make a mattress run worth considering.
How to Redeem Points
Booking Hyatt stays is by far the best use of World of Hyatt points. Hyatt remains the most award-friendly hotel program in the hobby, even after the 2026 award chart overhaul. While Hyatt allows transfers to airline partners, the redemption rates are poor and generally not worth considering.
How Hyatt’s award chart works
- Hotels are divided into Categories 1-8, with separate award charts for standard rooms, club rooms, standard suites, and premium suites.
- All-inclusive resorts use Categories A-F.
- Miraval properties also have their own separate award chart.
- Each category now has five pricing bands:
- Lowest
- Low
- Moderate
- Upper
- Top
- Room types include standard rooms, club rooms, standard suites, and premium suites.
Here's what the current award chart looks like for standard rooms after the iniital 2026 changes:
What changed in 2026
- Pricing now feels more dynamic because each category has multiple pricing bands, though Hyatt still uses a published award chart that remains more predictable than fully dynamic hotel programs.
- Lower-category hotels and off-peak stays still offer excellent redemption value, while luxury sweet spots at the highest categories are less generous than before the 2026 changes.
- The award chart is typically updated annually around February or March, when hotel categories and pricing can change.
- Hyatt usually announces category changes ahead of implementation, giving travelers time to book properties before award prices increase.
Other important details
- Resort and destination fees are waived on award stays, which adds meaningful value.
- Mr. and Mrs. Smith properties use fully dynamic pricing and do not follow Hyatt’s standard award chart. While many are high-end boutique hotels, redemption rates are generally less favorable than Hyatt’s core properties.
- Hyatt does not offer 4th or 5th free night awards on award stays like IHG, Hilton, and Marriott do. However, Hyatt’s nightly award pricing is usually significantly lower, which often offsets the lack of a free-night perk.
Car rentals
You can both earn and spend Hyatt points for Avis car rentals. Enter your World of Hyatt number to earn points when you rent with Avis, and you can also receive 25% off base rates. You can redeem 6000 points per day for an intermediate sized car, but this is not a good value for your points.

Discover your points' highest-value redemption options. Use the filters to find the optimal sweet spot for your next trip.
Booking Tips
Hyatt still uses an award chart, but each hotel category now has five pricing bands, making redemptions more variable than before. The program can still offer strong value, but not every award stay is the easy win it once was.
Hyatt’s highest-category properties were hit hardest by the expanded award chart, so luxury redemptions are no longer automatic wins. Lower-category hotels often offer the most outsized value.
Hyatt typically announces annual award chart changes before they take effect. If a property you want is moving up, book during the grace period before the higher pricing starts.
Hyatt does not always release all award space when the calendar opens. If your preferred property or dates are unavailable, check back regularly because rooms can appear later.
Changing your flight with World of Hyatt
- You can make changes for no fee, but you are subject to rate differences and availability
Canceling your flight with World of Hyatt
- Hyatt generally allows you to cancel award bookings up to 48 hours before check-in for a full refund of your points, but policies vary by property.
Who is it best for?
Hyatt remains our top-ranked hotel loyalty program, although the gap has narrowed following the 2026 award chart changes. Even with the increased pricing complexity, Hyatt continues to offer some of the best redemption value in the hotel space, especially compared to programs with fully dynamic pricing. While outsized value at higher-end properties is no longer as easy to find as it once was, lower-category hotels and off-peak stays can still provide excellent value.
Hyatt is best for travelers who want relatively consistent value from their award bookings. Award pricing remains more predictable than most competing hotel programs, with redemptions starting at 3,000 points per night for smaller markets and airport properties and extending to luxury resorts and all-inclusive hotels. There is also a reasonable path to elite status, with both Hyatt credit cards offering automatic Discoverist status. Top tier Globalist status offers the best benefits and perks of any hotel elite status program.
The biggest drawback remains Hyatt’s smaller footprint compared to Marriott or Hilton, particularly in smaller cities and rural areas. However, Hyatt’s partnership with Chase Ultimate Rewards continues to give it a major advantage, since Chase remains the easiest major transferable points ecosystem for most beginners to earn and use. Bilt has also emerged as the second transferable program to Hyatt, giving even more options for topping up.
Status Levels Explained
Hyatt offers three levels of elite status, each with its own set of perks. To reach a status tier, you must stay a certain number of nights each year or earn a set number of base points. You can also qualify by hosting events at Hyatt properties and meeting specific spending requirements.
You can become a World of Hyatt member for free. While this is not an elite status tier, it still comes with perks worth having. Members receive discounted member rates, Brand Explorer free night awards, and, best of all, waived resort fees on award stays. Owning one of the World of Hyatt credit cards gives you automatic Discoverist status. The top elite tier, Globalist, offers some of the best benefits and perks of any hotel status and is worth pursuing if you stay at Hyatts regularly throughout the year.

What to Know Before Canceling
You won’t lose your Hyatt points if you cancel your Hyatt card. Points do expire after 24 months of no account activity, so if you close the card, make sure you keep your account active. You can earn or redeem points, use the online point-combining request form to share points with another Hyatt member at no charge, or you can transfer points in from Chase or Bilt to reset the clock.
FAQs
How many Hyatt points for a free night?
You can redeem as few as 3,000 points for an off peak hotel night, which is far lower than most hotel programs. One of the best parts of World of Hyatt is its published award chart, though 2026 changes give it more of a dynamic feel.
Is World of Hyatt worth it?
Absolutely. A free account gets you member rates, brand explorer free night awards, and waived resort fees on award stays. With more hotels adding resort fees to both paid and award bookings, avoiding those charges simply for being a member is a valuable perk.
Does Chase give Hyatt status?
Both World of Hyatt credit cards, issued by Chase, offer complimentary Discoverist status. The perks are limited, but it’s still useful. Spending on the cards also earns qualifying night credits, which can help you climb toward a higher elite tier without staying the required nights to earn it.
How to stay at Hyatt for free?
Open a World of Hyatt card, earn the signup bonus, and redeem for a free night. The personal card also offers a free night each year on your account anniversary. You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards to Hyatt to book free nights across the portfolio.
Is it worth it to buy World of Hyatt points?
Buying points is rarely worth it unless they are offering a sale, and even in those cases, it's smart to do the math. Hyatt sells points for 2.6 cents each regularly, which is rarely worth it unless it's for a small top up. Chase and Bilt points can be easy to earn and transfer, so they’re usually the better option for topping off.
